“To all who can hear the precious sounds and words of Dharma: Please listen again to this “Invocation to Guru Rinpoche.” Allow this special gift from Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo to inspire the spontaneous increase in Bodhicitta (love and compassion) in your life. Always cultivate Bodhicitta. That is the purpose of your precious human life.”
— His Holiness Penor Rinpoche
On April 2, 1992, Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo spontaneously brought forth Invocation, a mystical message in the form of a chanted prayer that penetrates to the very core of the listener.
Essentially, Invocation is an expression of longing for true wisdom and compassion to make its appearance in the world and liberate beings from their confusion and suffering. This expression has three parts. The first conveys unwavering insistence that the pure teacher appear to bring direct blessing to those who have no means to comprehend and eradicate the root of their suffering. The second part is total compassionate surrender, the offering of one’s own body speech and mind and the means by which these blessings might reach others. The third section expresses the vow to continue to accomplish the purpose of these blessings until such time as all beings without exception are freed from the endless cycle of death and rebirth.
Invocation can be used as a profound meditational practice as it naturally stimulates and calls forth compassion and devotion within the mind. As shown at the top of this page, it has been formally recognized as a proper method of practice by H.H. Penor Rinpoche, who was the supreme head of the Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism at that time. For the best results, sit comfortably with the spine straight. Quietly engage in the motivation or wish to be of benefit to oneself and others equally, and then listen as though you are pronouncing the words yourself, invoking pure mind, the mind of Enlightenment to be present. It is very beneficial to listen to Invocation for an extended length of time with complete absorption allowing the mind to relax into its natural state. This form of meditation is considered to be an act of virtue if done with selfless intention and the strong wish to benefit others. Therefore, at the end of your meditation session, it is appropriate to dedicate one’s efforts to the Awakening of all beings.
